FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Knobcloud is the first dedicated marketplace for audio software licenses.
We offer:

  • Selling and buying licenses free of charge
  • An international audience
  • Protection of buyer and seller via PayPal
  • A dedicated search function
  • The ability to bundle licenses while selling them individually

In order to buy a particular license you need to register yourself, buy the license and send the seller the required information for the transfer of the license. The information required for the transfer is listed in the offer. Currently, payment is only possible with PayPal, so you need a PayPal account in order to buy a license.

Selling requires registration and a PayPal-account. As a seller, you are responsible for ensuring that your license is actually transferrable. It is your responsibility to study the license transfer conditions of the developer and list the requirements in your offer. The requirements for the transfer usually include some kind of information from the buyer, as the developer needs to attach the license to some kind of data from the buyer. This data may be:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Address
  • Telephone number
  • I-Lok account
  • User account at the developers Website

Knobcloud has a dedicated data base for the requirements of a license transfer. If a developer is listed in the database, the required information for the transfer is filled out automatically, unless this information is specifically unavailable. There is a possibility that the database may not be 100% accurate or up to date, so please check this information for accuracy. If you discover a flaw in the database, please let us know under [email protected], and we will correct it.

To maintain a balance of offers on our site, there are some rules for every user:

  • We currently don't allow more than 20 simultaneous offers.
  • The limit of offers per day is 5.
  • The limit of offers per month is 20, unless you have been granted a reseller account.
  • Selling the same license more than once is only possible with a reseller account.

Yes. However, there may be other costs involved in transferring your license. This issue is covered in the next question.

Developer Transfer Fee

The Developer Transfer Fee is a fee which needs to be paid by the seller to the developer in order to transfer the license. This fee varies and many developers do not charge it at all. We have created a list of developers and how they handle transfers, including fees. You can view it here. Whenever a developer transfer fee is involved, it should be included in the price, since the seller will have to pay it in order to complete the transaction.

Buyer activation fee

As far as we have researched, only developers at Plugin Alliance charge the buyer a fee for activating their plugins. This information needs to be in the offering, but since the buyer is paying for it, it should not be included in the offering price.

Paypal fees

PayPal fees are deducted from the asking price and should therefore be included in the offer. This fee varies depending on the country of origin of the seller and of the buyer. An overview of the PayPal fees can be found here.

Please note that there are extra fees for international transfers. Because of this, the seller may modify the price according to the location of the seller, offering to lower the price by a fixed amount if the buyer is from his country. Simply add an according note to your offer.

If you are a buyer, paying with PayPal will ensure that you will get your money back if the seller does not deliver the purchased license, as long as the regular PayPal fees are not sidestepped by choosing a payment form that does not involve the buyer protection fee.

If you are a seller and the buyer claims not to have received the purchased license, you can prove to Paypal that you have successfully transferred the license by showing them your correspondence with the developer of the software. In cases where the license transfer does not involve correspondence with the developer please contact the developer to make sure you can prove the license transfer.

Yes, as long as you are not committed to your other offering. If a license is bought on Knobcloud, the seller is committed to transferring the sold license. The seller needs to avoid a scenario where he accidentally sells his license twice.

Yes. We offer two ways of bundling your individual offers. You can choose between:

Open Bundles: You can offer a bundle of your individually offered licenses while keeping the individual offers. If an individual license which is part of the bundle is bought, the bundle will disassemble automatically, and you will be able to create a new bundle out of the remaining licenses.

Closed Bundles: You can wrap your individually sold licenses into a bundle while withdrawing the individual offers. You will find the Bundle-Function under "My Account – Selling".

For licenses that were originally bought as bundles and can only be transferred as a whole, you have the option of selecting a Bundle under "Sell your License – Category".

Going forward in our journey as a specialized marketplace for audio production software, we have realized that selling unregistered/unused licenses poses a legal threat to KnobCloud and its users, and this is why:

Allowing the selling of unregistered/unused licenses has led to a flood of offers which potentially violate the rights of developers or commercial resellers, because they give away licenses for free which are not meant to be resold. This also causes potential problems for the buyers on KnobCloud, who may later be unable to resell the once purchased license, or in some cases may end up with a revoked license. That is why we have decided to only allow the reselling of registered licenses – in this case, it is the developer who transfers the license to the new owner, implying the consent of the developer in regards to the new ownership.

Developers and commercial resellers may still sell unregistered licenses, after they have been approved by knobcloud. If you belong to this group, you can send us an email to [email protected] and apply for a developer or a commercial reseller account.
